As part of a cooperation in the Flyable Mirrors project funded by the German Research Foundation DFG, Prof. Dr. Ben Halkon is conducting research at the Institute of Electrical Information Technology for three weeks. In the Flyable Mirrors project, Prof. Rembe's measurement technology working group is conducting research into vibration measurement technology on large technical systems and structures using drones and laser Doppler vibrometers together with the Institute of Flight Systems Engineering at the German Aerospace Center DLR. Prof. Halkon is an expert in the compensation of disturbances caused by the inherent motion of laser Doppler vibrometers with acceleration sensors. This technology is particularly interesting for the Flyable Mirrors project. The Metrology working group, on the other hand, is pursuing a different approach in which such disturbances are suppressed by differential measurements with the laser Doppler vibrometer. During Prof. Halkon's visit, experiments will be carried out in which both methods are combined. The aim of this joint research is to achieve new records for amplitude resolution when measuring vibrations with laser Doppler vibrometers and drones at measuring points that are difficult to access.

As part of an ongoing cooperation in the Flyable Mirrors project funded by the German Research Foundation DFG, Prof. Dr. Ben Halkon is conducting research at the Institute of Electrical Information Technology for three weeks during April 2024. Profs. Halkon and Rembe have been working together on this, and other related topics, during the earlier part of this year especially and prior to that, to a lesser extent, since the funding was awarded in 2022. In the 3-yr Flyable Mirrors project, Prof. Rembe's measurement technology working group is conducting research into vibration measurement technology on large technical systems and structures using drones and laser Doppler vibrometers together with the Institute of Flight Systems Engineering at the German Aerospace Center DLR. Prof. Halkon, a long-term associate and friend of Prof. Rembe’s since the early 2000s, is an expert in the compensation of disturbances caused by the inherent motion of laser Doppler vibrometers with acceleration sensors. 

On April 11 at 14:00, Prof. Halkon will give a lecture on his research as part of the seminar "Measurement technology and sensor technology" entitled "Accurate measurements with UAV-LDV systems for structural damage detection by compensation of disturbances with inertial sensors". All interested students and employees of Clausthal University of Technology are cordially invited to attend the lecture in seminar room 400 in building C14 at Leibnizstraße 28.
