Dr. Ivan Xavier Torres Cordova

Career

Born in Ecuador and studied a BA in mechanical engineering at his home country. Obained a MSc. and PhD degree in the United Kingdom in the field of biomedical engineering focused in fabrication of Bio-Sensors. His gained knowledge, apart from mechanics, includes:

  • MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical Systems)
  • Functionalization techniques for cell culture procedures
  • Microscopy (SEM, confocal and fluorescence)

Academic career:

  • 2003–2010: BA Mechanical Engineering,ESPOL Ecuador. 
  • 2014-2015: MSc Biomedical Engineering, Newcastle University, United Kingdom.
    • Thesis: Machinability of bone substitute materials
  • 2015-2020: PhD Biosensors, Newcastle University, United Kingdome.
    • Thesis: Fabrication of a MEMS device for cell migration study
  • 2020-2023: Lecturer of statics, welding procedures and occupational safety at UIDE, Ecuador.
  • 2023-now: Post Doc position at TU Clausthal, Germany.
    • Project: RESAS (Real time high Sensitive food Allergen Sensor)
    • Funded by: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)
