Joint Summer School with the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”

From June 29 to July 10, 2026, the Chair of Intelligent Automation Systems hosted the first summer school of the DAAD-funded project "AI-based Automation and Control". The group of nine students and two accompanying professors came from the Department of Automation of Electromechanical Systems and Electric Drive at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

A central highlight of the program was a course on Data-Driven Control, which introduced methods that derive control strategies directly from measurement data rather than relying on classic, model-based approaches. Additionally, participants explored the practical use of AI tools in programming as well as the development of their own AI agents—for instance, to automate development and implementation steps of technical models. The theoretical content was directly applied in practical exercises, including the joint commissioning and control of the Go2 robot dog.

The group gained insights into the industrial application of these topics during a visit to the SincoTec Group. Following an overview of the company’s business areas, the participants toured the Clausthal facilities, tracing the entire journey from development and manufacturing to the deployment of modern testing systems in the accredited testing laboratory.

The program was rounded off by joint hikes, excursions, and evenings together, which expanded the professional exchange onto a personal level and gave the guests an impression of university and daily life in Clausthal and the Harz region.
