Detection and characterization of high frequency signals
Millimeter wave and THz detectors are used in many areas, for example in security systems and future communication systems.
The advantage of Schottky diodes as detectors is that they can be manufactured cost-effectively in commercial processes and offer a good balance between sensitivity and bandwidth. Although they are not as sensitive as zero-bias diodes and not as fast as FETs, their bias may provide additional information. By setting the bias, we can examine individual frequencies and still capture a wide bandwidth. This is particularly important for unknown spectra. Depending on the application, the antenna structure can be adapted to optimize the reconfigurability and behaviour of the detector.
